and distinguished
involvement with this
organisation and the Latin

Societies for Ultrasound in

International speaker and will be leading an
executive delegation of WFUMB to Auckland.

Dr Masatoshi Kudo is
currently President-Elect,

Societies of Ultrasound in

and an Executive Council
Member and Chair of
International Affairs
Committee, Japan Society of
Ultrasound in Medicine (JSUM). |

He is a pioneer of contrast-enhanced US for
liver tumors; he published contrast-enhanced
US during intraarterial carbon dioxide (CO2)
microbubbles in Radiology in 1991, 8 years
before commercial-based ultrasound agent,
Levovist, was available in routine clinical
use. This is the first clinical report of
contrast-enhanced US for liver tumors in the
world. Dr Kudo has published 198
International scientific papers and to date
has given 116 invited lectures overseas. He
has served as a member of many Medical
Societies as an executive council member or
officer and is a founding member of the
International Liver Cancer Association (ILCA).
He has also served as an Associate Editor or
Editorial Board Member of many International
journals and is a journal referee of more
than 25 peer review journals.

Professor Gebhard Mathis MD

Prof Mathis received his medical degree from
the Medical University of Vienna in 1977. He
always worked using the ultrasound probe
like a stethoscope – next step after
clinical examination.
During the past two decades he showed a lot
of US applications and interventions in
pulmonary and bowel diseases. His
publications include more than 100
peer-reviewed papers, two books in four
languages and, most recently, “Chest
Ultrasound” published by Springer (2nd Ed,
2007). |

In addition to his clinical
work, Prof Mathis spends much of his time on
ultrasound education in hands-on courses in
central Europe. Currently Prof Mathis is
President of the Austrian Society for
Ultrasound in Medicine and Member of the
Education and Professional Standards
Committee in EFSUMB. |

Professor Chander Vanjani is

Echocardiography and
Vascular Lab at PD Hinduja
Hospital and Medical
Research Centre Bombay,
India. Apart from emergency
echo work, he has a special
interest in Carotid
evaluation for early
atherosclerosis and its
regression and flow mediated
dilatation of brachial
arteries in various disease
states and evaluation of
deep venous system in
critical care patients. |

He has lectured
at many national and international echo and
ultrasound meetings and contributed to many
monograms on the subject. He is active at
international ultrasound educational
meetings and workshops.
Professor Vanjani is the recipient of the
“Pioneer Award” of WFUMB and AIUM for
pioneering work in promoting Ultrasound as a
speciality in India. He is Past President of
the Indian federation of Ultrasound in
Medicine (IFUMB) and Founder Dean of the
Indian College of Medical Ultrasound. He is
also Cardiac Editor of the Indian Journal of
Medical Ultrasound and is currently Vice
President of the Asian Federation of
Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (AFSUMB)
and Convenor of the next AFSUMB Conference
to be held in India in 2010. |
